Monday, February 19 – We began our second day in San Antonio, Texas, by visiting the King William Historic Home District. Settled by German immigrants. these beautiful homes were built by German immigrants and date back to the 1790’s. Nearly all the homes in this area along the San Antonio River Walk have been restored to their original grandeur. Many of the homes are constructed with beautiful Texas sandstone, which we found especially appealing. This is a very enjoyable tour, and one we would highly recommend. Be sure to pick up a brochure. Ernst Altgelt, the first to build on current-day King William Street, is credited with naming his street after King Wilhelm I of Prussia.

Our next stop was Market Square. This area is composed of several large building containing many smaller Hispanic shops in the Mariachi Plaza. It has the feeling of being in Mexico with similar merchandise one would find in the typical Mexican border town. We enjoyed walking through many of the shops but didn't find anything we couldn't live without. We then took a tour of the outside shopping opportunities. We did stop at a delicious bakery for a treat.
